Springfield saints

WayinSimpsons.jpgThe New York artist Joseph Cavalieri is producing a series of works in stained glass combining religious imagery with characters from The Simpsons, called 'Missing Episodes'.

The Reincarnation of Maggie
(left) offers an explanation of why after twenty years on the show Maggie is still a baby.

Other works in the series depict Bart and Lisa crucified 'to represent America's loss of world domination', in Cavalieri's words, and Marge's sisters Patty and Selma as angels.

'These are episodes that couldn't be shown on TV,' says Cavalieri. 'because the characters die permanently. No one would be left alive for next week's show.' The tolerance of US TV viewers for cartoon crucifix- ion would presumably be another adequate reason.

There will be 20 pieces altogether, to mark the show's 20th anniversary.
