Launde Abbey
Spring might be a good time to take a Christian retreat,
and Laude Abbey has a couple of interesting options.
Over April 7-11 the Creative Arts Retreat Movement (CARM) will
lead Photography, Poetry and Prayer, which will be an informal
retreat with times for worship, silence, reflection, conversation,
good food and enjoying your chosen art.
The two arts will be distinct but there will be times for
exchange, and worship and evening sessions to be shared. Attendees
may focus on either photography or poetry, but can also move
between the two. The poetry group will share poems together and you
will be encouraged to write your own; the photography group will
consider basic camera techniques, lens choice, image capture,
exposure, focus techniques and shoot, review, revise, reshoot.. The
cost is £295.00 including all meals and accommodation.
Over April 22-26 is a part-working gardening holiday led by the
Launde community itself. It will involve some time working in the
Abbey gardens, including the walled kitchen garden in preparation
for the summer months. Some horticultural knowledge would be
useful, although guidance will be given if necessary. It is
however, essential that participants are enthusiastic, physically
fit and capable of all aspects of work in the garden. Participants
are expected to undertake around four hours work per day and there
will be time to relax in other pursuits during their time here,
either with other members of the group or on their own. The price
for this one is £75 including all means and en-suite
accommodation.
