Way In

Here we go again

You won't find it on the Third Way book of the year pages, but the bestselling religious book of 2012 in the US is a prophecy of imminent destruction called The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn, a messianic rabbi and pastor of Jerusalem Center-Beth Israel Congregation in New Jersey.

The book is a response to two Democrat senators who, after the 9/11 attacks quoted Isaiah 9:10: 'The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones'.

A worthy sentiment you might think, but Cahn spotted the verse was quoted out of context. Originally it was a defiant reply by Israelites whom the prophet threatened with judgment. It is but a small step for Cahn to prove from this evidence that the 9/11 attacks were a judgment from God on the sins of the US, and the nation's attempt to pick itself up and go on are stubborn rebellion. The nation is racing towards divine destruction.

This is the first of nine biblical harbingers of doom Cahn lists. All will happen to the US, because they happened in Israel. He also reveals that the World Trade Centre was built on the spot where North America was first consecrated to God, making it a spiritual sibling of the Temple Mount.

There is still time to get the book before Christmas, though not necessarily before the end of the world.
