Events for June

The first big event of the summer comes perfectly framed by one of the most beautiful landscapes in Britain. Solas, a festival sponsored by Greenbelt and Christian Aid, takes place near Biggar among the picturesque hills of South Lanarkshire.

The festival has an line-up that reaches across the arts and current affairs, including music from the likes of Emma Pollock, Michael Marra and Stanley Odd; speakers such as Alan Greenspan (High Fidelity), Third Way features editor Nick Thorpe and Kathy Galloway; and theatre and visual arts for all the family.

Third Way was there for the first year in 2010 and we reckon that it's perfect for Greenbelt fans looking for another weekend hit in a more intimate environment - indeed,  Greenbelt Angels can benefit from discounted tickets.
For more information, on that - and details of what's on offer for the whole weekend - visit or email Standard adult tickets are £95, but there are a range of offers - and, best of all, kids under 11 go free. There are also some volunteering opportunities.

The whole thing takes place over June 24-26 - just don't forget that essential camping tool for Scottish countryside evenings: midge repellent!

Those frustrated by how football can take over a household usually find the end-of- season break a welcome break. But over at UK Sports Ministries the passion for the game never ends. 'If you love football and love Jesus what support do you get?' they ask. 'Where do you get resources and encouragement? Where do you meet like minded people who understand your issues?'

Fortunately, they've prepared an answer in advance: it's the fourth Football Ministry Conference, which takes place at Rock UK's Frontier Centre, Irthlingborough, Northants.

Apparently most of the UK's leading football ministries are involved and the event aims 'to keep folks going through the challenges of football ministry through support and stories of great work in our favourite game.'

The conference runs from June 10-12 and costs £120, which includes all accommodation and meals. For further details see http:// or call 07885 778501.

If, however, all you're after is a game, why not enter your church team in the London Churches Football Tournament? Now in it's 8th year and held at Regent's Park, there are categories for U12s, U14s, U16s, Ladies and Men. It all kicks off on  June 18 - see the above website for details.
