Redemption song

Earlier this month, police say a man kidnapped the nineyear- old Willie Myrick from his home driveway in Atlanta, Georgia.

'He was cursing at me telling me to shut up and didn't want to hear a word from me,' Myrick told WSB-TV. 'He said if I told anyone, he would hurt me, like in a bad way.'

But Myrick refused to be compliant or silent, deciding instead - like so many before him - to turn to his love of Gospel music when in trouble. He began to sing the popular Hezekiah Walker song 'Every Praise', which contains the lines: 'Every praise is to our God. Every word of worship with one accord. Every praise every praise is to our God. Sing hallelujah to our God. Glory hallelujah is due our God. Every praise every praise is to our God.'

Despite his captor cursing at him and telling him to shut up, Myrick carried on singing - for three hours. At that point the kidnapper pulled over and released the boy.

'He opened the door and threw me out. He told me not to tell anyone,' Myrick told worshippers at his local church at an event celebrating his safe return.

Among the congregation was the Grammy Award-winning singer Hezekiah Walker himself; he had travelled from New York to meet the young fan. Myrick wept with joy when he met his hero.

'It's just emotional to me because you never know who you're going to touch,' Walker told ABC News after the service.

'I just wanted to hug him and tell him I love him,' Walker said, adding: 'I really believe that God spoke through me to save that young man's life.'

Despite releasing a photofit description, the Atlanta Police Department is still searching for the man who abducted Myrick.
